Preparing the Garden of Your Heart
Theme: Making Space + Receiving Grace
There comes a moment…
often in a quieter season of life…
when we begin to sense that something inside needs tending.
often in a quieter season of life…
when we begin to sense that something inside needs tending.
Not fixing.
Not striving.
Just… tending.
Not striving.
Just… tending.
Because our hearts are like a garden ๐ฟ
And over time, things can become a little crowded…
a little hardened…
a little overlooked.
And over time, things can become a little crowded…
a little hardened…
a little overlooked.
๐ธ When the Soil Feels Full
Life has a way of filling every space.
Unspoken emotions…
Moments we didn’t fully process…
Disappointments we quietly carried…
Moments we didn’t fully process…
Disappointments we quietly carried…
Even good things—like loving our families well—
can leave very little room for our own hearts to be seen.
can leave very little room for our own hearts to be seen.
So instead of tending the garden,
we simply keep walking past it.
we simply keep walking past it.
But God, in His kindness, gently invites us back.
๐ฟ The Invitation to Prepare
Before anything new can grow,
the soil must be prepared.
the soil must be prepared.
In a natural garden, we:
๐ฑ Clear the weeds
๐ฑ Loosen the soil
๐ฑ Make space for new life
๐ฑ Clear the weeds
๐ฑ Loosen the soil
๐ฑ Make space for new life
And the same is true for our hearts.
Not with pressure…
but with presence.
but with presence.
๐ A Gentle Moment with God
This is where your journey begins.
Not with doing…
but with inviting God in.
but with inviting God in.
You might simply pause and pray:
“Lord, would You gently show me
what has been sitting beneath the surface of my heart?”
what has been sitting beneath the surface of my heart?”
And then… just listen.
๐ผ What He May Reveal
Sometimes He brings to light:
- Places where we’ve been hurt
- Moments that didn’t make sense
- Areas where we’ve grown weary
- Or even places where forgiveness is needed
๐ Forgiveness of others
๐ Forgiveness of ourselves
๐ And sometimes… even releasing our questions toward God
๐ Forgiveness of ourselves
๐ And sometimes… even releasing our questions toward God
Especially in seasons where life took an unexpected turn—
an illness, an accident, a loss, or a “learning swerve” we didn’t choose.
an illness, an accident, a loss, or a “learning swerve” we didn’t choose.
๐ฟ A Truth to Hold Onto
God is not afraid of what’s in your heart.
He is a loving gardener—
patient, gentle, and full of compassion.
patient, gentle, and full of compassion.
๐ “Search me, O God, and know my heart…
see if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.” — Psalm 139:23–24

and lead me in the way everlasting.” — Psalm 139:23–24
๐ “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened,
and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28
and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28
๐ท Preparing is Not Failing
It can feel like slowing down means we’re falling behind.
But in the garden…
๐ฟ Preparation is essential
๐ฟ Slowing down is intentional
๐ฟ And making space is where grace begins
๐ฟ Slowing down is intentional
๐ฟ And making space is where grace begins
๐ “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” — Psalm 147:3
๐ฑ A Simple Practice This Week
Keep this gentle:
๐ง Take a few quiet moments each day
๐ง Sit with God—no agenda
๐ง Notice what comes up in your heart
๐ง Write it down without judgment
๐ง Sit with God—no agenda
๐ง Notice what comes up in your heart
๐ง Write it down without judgment
You don’t have to fix it.
Just bring it into the light.
Just bring it into the light.
๐ธ Closing Whisper
What if this week…
wasn’t about changing anything?
wasn’t about changing anything?
What if it was simply about noticing…
and letting God meet you there?
and letting God meet you there?
๐ฟ Continue the Journey
Once the soil is prepared…
we begin to look at what is ready to be planted.
we begin to look at what is ready to be planted.
