SHE HEARS HIS VOICE
What Is Hidden Beneath the Surface

Notice What Is Hidden Beneath the Surface

"Search me, O God, and know my heart."
 — Psalm 139:23
Sometimes what keeps us stuck isn't our circumstances.
It's the beliefs, wounds, and unmet needs hiding beneath the surface.
God does not reveal these places to shame us.
He reveals them so He can heal them.

My Garden Story

When my husband and I returned home from a wonderful cruise, I discovered this hanging basket.
The flowers that had once been vibrant were wilted and dry. We had carefully set up a watering system before leaving, but somehow the connection had come apart.
The plant had everything it needed.
The water was available.
But the connection had been lost.
As I looked at the basket, I realized my own heart felt much the same.
During our trip, an old wound had quietly surfaced. Something that happened between my husband and me touched a place of misunderstanding and hurt that felt very familiar.
I didn't want to bring it up.
He wasn't feeling well.
I didn't want to spoil our vacation.
So I pushed my feelings aside.
But when we came home, I realized those emotions had not disappeared. Underneath the tears was something deeper: a feeling of neglect, abandonment, and loneliness.
Even though I know my identity is rooted in God's love, I discovered there was still a tender place in my heart that needed His healing.
The Holy Spirit gently invited me to pray:
"Search me, O God, and know my heart."
God wasn't condemning me.
He was inviting me to reconnect.
Sometimes our hearts become disconnected from the living water without us even realizing it.
Old wounds, disappointments, unmet expectations, or painful memories can quietly influence our thoughts, relationships, and decisions.
But Jesus always meets us with grace.

Reflection Questions

  • Have you ever felt hurt or misunderstood in your marriage?
  • Have you ever ignored your own pain because you didn't want to upset someone else?
  • Is there an old wound that still feels tender today?
  • What emotions might God be inviting you to notice?

Prayer

Holy Spirit, is there something influencing my thoughts, emotions, or decisions that You want me to notice?
Help me bring hidden places into Your light.
Reconnect me to Your living water.
Show me where You want to heal my heart.
Amen.
