🌿 Whispers from the Garden: Settle the Nerves First, Then Add Focus
What if peace isn't the reward for getting everything done—but the preparation for beginning?
Have you ever had one of those days when your schedule fills up faster than you're ready for?
You know what needs to be done.
You have the list.
You may even have the time.
But somehow your brain just doesn't want to sit down and start.
Some days I need ten minutes.
Some days I need thirty.
And I've discovered something important:
The difference isn't always willpower.
Sometimes I need to settle myself before I can focus.
And that realization has made me think about gardens.
🌱 A Whisper from the Garden
I wonder if God designed us to begin our days in much the same way a garden begins its day…
receiving before producing.
The garden doesn't wake up and start worrying about whether it is growing fast enough.
It doesn't compare itself with the garden next door.
It doesn't look at yesterday's growth and decide it should have done better.
It simply receives.
Sunlight.
Water.
Nourishment.
And as it receives, its roots grow deeper.
Then, in time, it bears fruit.
How often do we reverse that process?
We wake up and immediately begin producing.
Answering.
Planning.
Fixing.
Checking.
Organizing.
Caring for everyone else.
And somewhere in the middle of all that activity, we realize:
"Wait. I haven't even checked in with God yet."
What if we began with a different question?
"Jesus, what do You want me to know before I begin?"
That simple question can change the atmosphere of a day.
